For Californians age 65 and older, navigating available resources at the city, county, and state level can sometimes feel overwhelming. Below is an updated list of programs and services designed to support older adults across California, with a focus on resources available in San Diego County and Assembly District 77. State Resources:
California Department of Aging
The California Department of Aging (CDA) oversees programs that support older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers across the state. Services include nutrition programs, caregiver support, Medicare counseling, in-home support, and long-term care coordination through local Area Agencies on Aging.
Local Resources:
211 San Diego is a local nonprofit organization whose entire job is to connect San Diegans to valuable community, health, and disaster resources. They are available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and they maintain an expansive and updated database of available services.
Services are available in multiple languages, with accessibility support for deaf and hard-of-hearing residents.
County Aging & Independence Services

The County of San Diego’s Aging & Independence Services are a one-stop shop for crucial County-level resources for older adults, people with disabilities, and their family members and caretakers.
The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency maintain a list of community organizations serving nutritious meals available to seniors. These services are available for a suggested donation, but no senior age 60+ will be turned away if they are unable to donate.

The Loonin Family Kitchen can have Meals on Wheels or Foodmobile driver deliver directly to your door. This service is also available for adults under 60 years of age with a disability that prevents them from being able to leave the home.

Senior Meal Program at the Carlsbad Senior Center
The Carlsbad Senior Center serves weekday lunches in their dining room from noon to 1pm for adults 60+ with reservations. City of Solana Beach Senior Services
The City of Solana Beach Senior Services provides programs and support for older adults focused on healthy aging, social connection, and community engagement. Services may include wellness and recreation activities, educational classes, social events, transportation and volunteer-based support, and referrals to local senior resources in North County San Diego. Programming is primarily coordinated through the City’s community services and senior programming network, with seasonal activities and events available throughout the year.
Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC)
Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC) is a volunteer-run nonprofit that supports older adults in Solana Beach by helping them age safely and independently at home. Services include transportation assistance, friendly visiting, minor home support referrals, help with errands, and connection to local resources. SBCC also provides information and referrals for healthcare, housing, and social services, along with community outreach programs designed to reduce isolation and support aging in place.
Del Mar Community Connections (DMCC)

Del Mar Community Connections (DMCC) is a nonprofit organization contracted by the City of Del Mar to support older adults in maintaining independence and quality of life while aging at home. Services include transportation assistance, friendly visitor programs, help with errands and minor household tasks, care coordination, and referrals to local health and social services. DMCC also helps connect seniors to community resources and provides support aimed at reducing isolation and promoting safe, independent living.
AgeWell San Diego is a County-led initiative to make our communities more accessible places to live for people of all ages. The City of San Diego has their own AgeWell programs, from free weekday lunches to technology training to senior recreational activities.
Therapeutic Recreation Services

The City of San Diego’s Therapeutic Recreation Services program provides opportunities for people with physical and mental disabilities to participate in sports and recreational activities.
San Diego Public Library – Older Adult Services
The San Diego Public Library system offers programs specifically for older adults focused on lifelong learning, social connection, and access to resources. Services include technology assistance, book clubs, educational lectures, wellness programs, homebound delivery services, and memory support resources through select branches.
San Diego Public Library also provides “Digital Navigator” support and community workshops that help seniors build computer and internet skills and stay connected.
John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green

The John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green serves the Coronado community age 50+ by offering programs that support active, healthy, and engaged aging.
